Does the 1999 Mazda Miata 1.8 engine use a timing belt or timing chain?

I was under the impression that ALL Miatas used a timing belt, but a dealer trying to sell me a Hard S Miata insisted they used a timing chain. Can anyone clear this up for me? A link would be spectacular!

All miata used timing belt.
He may be mistaken with Mazda MPV, it uses timing chain.
