I have a kenmore (Amana ) fridge. There was frost building on the evaporator coils and cooling was hendered. I cleaned the condenser coils (as best I could) and changed out the defrost thermostat because it appeared to have burst. It works for a few
Put your ear down by the timer and see if you can hear it advance, or use a marker to mark location and see if it advances. Next after your prove it advances rotate into defrost (compressor shuts off) and check amp draw on the normally open set of contacts
